I owned a Stylus 720SW and I can say that the new Stylus 1030SW improves a lot on the first models. The view screen is much brighter. The 10.1Mpixels make for great pictures (taking into account that this is a consumer point and shoot)
The most obvious advantages relate to the ease with which I can carry this camera everwhere, wether skiing, boating, fishing, swimming, motorcycling and also, lend to my children without feeling that I need to give them a 5 minute speach on what not to do to not break the thing!!!
For me , this camera is simply a lot of fun!

its not a value for sure
Overall great features, rigid, very strong all these qualities are up to the standard of an very excellent camera for the purpose meant.
At the end of a hard day or very exciting day full with outdoor activities, water sports and all other might be happenings, the quality of the image and quality of recorded movie (up to 10 seconds) is really disappointing! YEs, that;s right, very disappointing. No sharpens, overexposure and colours are to dark or to light!
For that amount of money it's not a value for sure, because picures are there to stay forever isn't it?

Even better than my 770SW, but even after careful preparation it leaked in the battery compartment on first immersion and died for good.

Received this camera today
The still image quality is excellent and I've tried it out taking underwater pictures of my Koi carp in my pond al lwithout any problems (no water leaks on this one!).
The features on the camera are pretty impressive, lots of different modes and even an unlimited movie mode without the firmware update (guess they are shipping with the latest firmware already)
Image quality and sharpness are great and noise upto iso200 is more than acceptable. Above this it's noticable but still ok for printing small prints (upto 7x5).
Buld quality is excelleny and the camera feels really sturdy. A nice feature is the LED 'flash' light option in super macro mode for illuminating the subject without the use of the flash.
Problems:
Movie mode - 640x480 30fps the picture quality is average however the audio quality is next to useless, it's muffled and barely audible unless it's a very loud source.
I'm sending it back for a full refund as my 3 year old Sony DSC-N1 out performs it on all fronts, especially in movie mode, and underwater in the MPK-NA marine case I've also got.
I'd recommend not buying a 1030SW, buy a second hand Sony DSC-N1 and if you need to go underwater with it buy an MPK-NA marine pack to go with it.
